The Rodin Carlin ace made the trip to the south of France aiming to build on a brace of podiums and her first pole position in Formula 1 ®’s all-female series last time out at Monza.
The 20-year-old from Spalding, UK was the pace-setter during the series’ recent in-season test at the 3.6-mile venue, and that pace translated across into qualifying this time around, with Pulling claiming a second pole in successive rounds.
The Alpine Academy driver was bested off the start in the opening race by Nerea Marti but rallied in the second half of the race to reduce the arrears to around a second at the chequered flag. Second still marked a sixth trip to the rostrum for Pulling in 2023.
The Brit then backed that up with another points-scoring run to seventh in the second of three contests, before finishing a commendable fourth on the road in the reverse grid contest.
Post-race, one of Pulling’s tyres was found to have been 0.4 PSI under the regulated pressure, and she was disqualified from the results on the grounds of a technical infringement.
Nevertheless, her efforts have cemented fifth in the championship for Pulling, as the attention turns to the series finale at Circuit of the Americas, Austin on 20-22 October, in support of the US Grand Prix.
Abbi Pulling said:
“It was a weekend with lots of potential, and it was great to go some way to realising that with another pole position in qualifying.
I was disappointed to not convert it into a win, although it was still great to be standing on the podium again in P2."
“There is still lots of work to do and I definitely didn’t maximise my performance in Races 2 & 3, so during the gap before Austin, I’ll be working hard with the team at Rodin Carlin to make sure it’s a mistake-free weekend.”
